Shop Rules: Applicable to Bets

All Bets are subject to the following rules;

 We accept bets for all meetings held under the rules of recognized Jockey Clubs, Turf Clubs, and National Hunt Committees worldwide (point to point excluded), the National Greyhound Racing Club(NGRC) and such other NGRC tracks as may be designated for Bookmakers Afternoon & Evening Greyhound Service (BAGS & BEGS) from time to time. We accept bets for Irish Greyhound Racing for Shelbourne Park (excluding Wednesday night) and other Irish greyhound tracks run by the Irish Greyhound Board (IGB).

 Selections for other sporting events may be accepted by BoyleSports if a price is agreed between you and us. In addition, any instructions or terms issued by us by means of a press announcement or a notice posted by us in our betting offices are part of these conditions of acceptance and Rules. We reserve the right to declare void any bet whose bona fides we are not satisfied with, win or lose. We reserve the right to refuse payment on any lost or mislaid betting slip that cannot be substantiated by reference to our photographic/EPOS/scanning records. In the event of our photographic/scanning records being destroyed or interfered with we reserve the right to refuse you payment. We reserve the right to refuse the whole or any part of any commission offered to us. In the event of any of our premises being destroyed by fire or other natural disaster beyond our control, we reserve the right to refuse payment on any bet. In the event of a break-in to any of our premises, we reserve the right to withhold payment on any bet laid in that premises or managed from the premises.

Ante Post Bets;

All Ante Post bets are accepted and settled on Rules of Racing only. Ante Post bets are accepted on the basis of ‘all in’, whether the horse or selection participates or not. This means that if the horse or selection does not run or participate in the race/event named, the bet is a loser. This applies even if the selection was not entered in the race, as long as there was the possibility that it could have been entered at a later stage. All Ante-Post prices are subject to fluctuation and Ante-Post bets will be settled at the price ruling at the time of acceptance and must be recorded on the betting slip by our staff. We reserve the right to correct any palpable or obvious errors .If a bet is placed on an Ante Post selection before the entries have closed, the bet will stand. The selection will only become void if:

  • The race/event is abandoned or declared void
  • In the case of horseracing, a horse is balloted out or eliminated under Jockey Club Rule 125, or prevented from running under Jockey Club Rule 1A
  • The venue changes
  • In the case of horseracing and greyhound racing, if the conditions of the race entry are changed prior to the horses or greyhounds coming under starters orders
  • In the case of horseracing, where the horse had already been withdrawn from the race at the time of acceptance
  • Specific terms such as “with a run” were offered at the time the bet was placed and the selection is subsequently withdrawn as a non-runner

Where the above conditions apply to a selection in an Ante Post multiple bet, the selection in question will be treated as a non-runner and the bet settled at the Ante Post odds laid on the remaining selections). Doubles, trebles and accumulators will be calculated at accumulative odds, except when the same selection is taken to win two or more events, when reduced odds may apply. If a bet on an Ante Post selection was placed after the entries closed, it will become void unless:

The race is run on a later date at the same venue; and entries are not re-opened, in which case the bet will stand.

However, if the conditions of the race change (e.g. if the race is to be run over a different distance), all affected Ante-Post selections will be void. Each-Way Ante Post bets are settled according to the Each-Way terms advertised at the time the bet was placed. Ante Post selections can be included in most types of bets, including our range of speciality bets. However, any built-in bonuses and consolations specific to certain specialty bets (such as Treble the odds one winner on a Lucky 15/31/63 bet) will not apply. We do not accept “place only”, “any- to -come” or “if cash” bets at Ante-Post odds.

 In the event of a postponement of a race or event - if the declarations are re-opened - all bets placed before the postponement will be void, win or lose.

Ambiguous Instructions;

Should the name of a selection be incorrectly written or should an unnamed selection be un-timed or incorrectly timed or should customer’s instructions be loosely worded, the bet will be executed provided we are satisfied by reference to our security time stamp or otherwise as to the customer’s intentions; if not, any selections so involved will be treated as non-runners as will any selections for races precluded by our rules. However, where instructions are given for unnamed selections at morning or afternoon B.A.G.S / B.E.G.S. meetings and where the scheduled race time and meeting stated do not correspond, then the race time will take precedence for the purpose of settlement. Where a time and meeting is clearly stated but no selection is indicated by name or trap number, the favourite in that race will be taken as the customer’s selection. Where selections are given but instructions and stakes are completely omitted, the stake available will be divided and invested equally as single bets on each of the selections given. In all cases, bets will be settled as win bets, unless each way is specified.

Should the name of a selection be incorrectly written so as to be interpreted as two separate selections, i.e., Blue Moon or Indian Runner and the customer writes Blue Runner, stakes will be equally divided on both selections involved. Where a selection and a price are taken but do not correspond, the bet will be settled on the selection, not the price.

In-Play Betting;

In-Play betting is available on a number of live events. Whilst every effort is made to ensure that the prices quoted are correct, the nature of live betting (i.e. constantly changing prices), means that on occasion, the price may have changed by the time the bet is placed. The correct price at the time the bet is accepted will be used to settle the bet.

Customers should be aware that certain 'live' feeds, be they on TV, radio or the internet are subject to delays and as such they may be watching an event slightly behind or slightly ahead of other users. This includes live streaming provided by BoyleSports.

Board Prices and Morning Prices;

At all horse or greyhound meetings when we are receiving a “Course Betting service” we will lay the current quoted price of the selection at the time the bet is accepted. The instruction “first show” will not be accepted; if taken in error the selection will be settled at the starting price. Customers wishing to bet at board or morning prices must stipulate this when handing in the bet, ensuring that the quoted price is marked on the betting slip by our Staff, and countersigned by them, otherwise the bet will be settled at the starting price. Where a board or morning price is laid, this will apply to the selection throughout the slip. Should there be an (official) correction of a price or starting price, whichever was wrongly transmitted, all wagers struck at that price will be settled at the corrected price or starting price, whichever is the greater, a similar correction will be made where, due to a mistake by a member of our staff a price has been incorrectly quoted, whether to the customers advantage or not. This rule will similarly apply where morning prices advertised or displayed on the day of an event are marked incorrectly on the betting slip by a member of our Staff. Settlement of the place part of each way bets where a price has been laid (except ante-post) is determined by our Place term Rule

A horse race bet laid in accordance with advertised or circulated prices on the day of the race is not an ante-post bet and in the event of any withdrawals such horse(s) will count as non-runners and bets for other horses will be subject to a deduction equivalent to that of Tattersall’s Rule 4, the rate depending upon the advertised or quoted price(s) of the withdrawn horse(s). When a rule 4 deduction applies to an early priced race and the result renders the price less than the returned S.P. price, we will pay at the SP. This applies to singles only.

*Morning Prices on horses are available or up to the transmission of the 1st show from the course.

*Morning Prices on Greyhounds are available up to 20 minutes before the advertised off time, or up to the transmitted 1st show whichever occurs earliest.

No prices are available on Horse Racing once the race has started.

Disputes;

Should you have any concern over a bet or claim, or a complaint or dispute, please consult our shop manager in the first instance & they will make every effort to settle your query. However, if you are not entirely satisfied or believe you have been treated unfairly please write to our Head Office (Finnabair Industrial Estate, Dundalk, Co. Louth) or email care@BoyleSports.com enclosing full details of your query, or free phone Customer Care on 1800 44 00 00. This will receive our prompt attention. If you have followed these procedures and if you are still not entirely satisfied or believe you have been treated unfairly then you should submit your dispute to IBAS

(Independent Betting Arbitration Service, a UK independent adjudication service). Their decision is final, provided the full details have been submitted by both sides. When it is clear of the customer’s intention then we will endeavor to settle the bets as to their intended instructions, i.e. the customer’s previous betting patterns will be taken into consideration.

It is a condition of placing a bet with us that you agree to the processing of your personal data by us as described in these Rules. At any time, you can make a written request to BoyleSports to have access to all the personal information that BoyleSports holds about you. BoyleSports reserves the rights to charge you the statutory administrative charge should you make such a request.

You may inform BoyleSports of any changes to your personal data by contacting BoyleSports, who will then update or delete the personal data held. It is your responsibility to tell BoyleSports when information that you have provided to BoyleSports is out of date or needs to be amended.

Each-Way Betting;

An Each-Way bet is made up of 2 parts: the ‘Win' and the ‘Place'. Each part is an equal stake, e.g. a €1 Each Way bet will have €1 on the ‘Win' and €1 on the ‘Place' (a total stake of €2). The ‘Win' part of your bet is on your selection to win the event, and the ‘Place' part is on your selection to finish either first or in one of the pre-determined places. If your selection wins, both the ‘Win' and ‘Place' parts of your bet will pay out. But if your selection only places, you will lose the ‘Win' part of your bet (and lose that part of the stake) but get paid out on the ‘Place'.

The odds for the ‘Place' are given as a fraction of the odds for the ‘Win' and will be displayed to you when you place your bet. Each-Way betting is most common in horse and greyhound racing, and is also usually available in other sports e.g. Football or Golf tournaments.

 For Horse and Greyhound Racing, the ‘Place' part of Each Way bets will be given the following Place terms:

 Non-Handicap Races;

  • 2 - 4 Runners Win Only
  • 5 - 7 Runners 1/4 the Odds 1, 2
  • 8 or more Runners 1/5 the Odds 1, 2, 3

Handicap Races;

  • 2 - 4 Runners Win Only
  • 5 - 7 Runners 1/4 the Odds 1, 2
  • 8 - 11 Runners 1/5 the Odds 1, 2, 3
  • 12 - 15 Runners 1/4 the Odds 1, 2, 3
  • 16 or more Runners 1/4 the Odds 1, 2, 3, 4

Please Note, Horse races with 4 runners or less, there is no place betting available and all the stake will go on to win. For

example if you have €1 Each Way and there are only 4 runners, the bet will be settled as €2 win. Also, Non-Runners in a race can affect the Each-Way terms of your bet. For example, if your bet is placed in an 8 runner race, and a horse later withdraws reducing the field to 7, the Each-Way terms will change from 1/5 odds first 3 places to 1/4 odds on the first 2 places only.

For overseas racing where we pay pari-mutuel returns, the each way terms will be as Determined by the local pari-mutuel rules.

See overseas racing section.

Enhanced Prices for Multiple Bets;

In cases where we offer an enhanced price for multiple bets, such as doubles or trebles, any non-runners will be treated as void selections. For example, a treble with a non-runner will be settled as a double on the remaining selections will be settled at SP.

Errors;

BoyleSports make every effort to ensure that we do not make errors in accepting bets. However, if as a result of human error or system problems a bet is accepted at a price (which includes the odds, handicap provisions, and other terms and conditions or details of the bet) that is:

  1. materially different from those available in the general market at the time the bet was made; or
  2. Clearly incorrect given the chance of the event occurring at the time the bet was made then BoyleSports will pay winnings at the correct price.

Examples of circumstances where this would apply are:

  1. the price is recorded as 100-1 when the price on offer in the general market is 10-1
  2. the margins for handicap betting have been reversed

If a bet is accepted in error by BoyleSports on an event or outcome for which no BoyleSports prices are available the bet will be void and your stake returned.

Favourite;

  1. In any race the favourite is the horse quoted in the official starting price return at the shortest odds. The second favourite is the horse quoted at the next shortest odds and so on. If two horses should be quoted at the same odds and if these odds should be shorter than those quoted against any other horse then these two horses are the joint first and second favourites.
  2. Subject to section (C) of this rule where the customer uses the word, “favourite” or “second favourite” to indicate the selection the stake will be invested on the horse defined in the preceding section. If two or more horses are thus selected the stake will be divided and invested equally amongst each of the selected horses. However, if such joint favourites are returned at a price where irrespective of result no profit could accrue to the backer of the favourite, the unnamed favourite will be treated as a non-runner. This section and section (A) with the exception of 2nd favourite will apply equally to greyhound racing.
  3. Commissions for unnamed favourites or additionally in the case of horse racing of unnamed second favourites will be accepted to win only. The place part of any such commission, if taken will be declared void.
  4. Commissions for second favourites at Greyhound meetings are not accepted and even if inadvertently taken will be declared void. Should a favourite commission be timed for one of the races on the days programme but no meeting or an unscheduled meeting be specified, it will be executed as for the BAGS/BEGS meeting where the time coincides

Fraud;

BoyleSports will seek criminal and contractual sanctions against any customer involved in fraud, dishonesty or criminal acts.

BoyleSports will withhold payment to any customer where any of these are suspected.

The customer shall indemnify and shall be liable to pay to BoyleSports, on demand, all costs, charges or losses sustained or incurred by BoyleSports(including any direct, indirect or consequential losses, loss of profit and loss of reputation) arising directly or indirectly from the customer’s fraud, dishonesty or criminal act.

Incorrect Stakes or Instructions;

Where it is quite clear from the written instructions on the bet what the customer intended to back, nothing in this rule shall overrule this.

A) Incorrect Number of Bets or Selections

Where the number of singles, doubles, trebles and accumulators are specified, unless it is obvious which part of the bet is under staked or over staked, the total amount staked will be equally divided over the full bet. Where an incorrect number of selections are given in a “Yankee” or similar full cover “named” bet, whether the instructions are specified by name or written out in full at Equal Stakes, the total stake will be divided and invested equally on the full number of doubles, trebles, fourfolds, and so on as determined by the number of selections given. When a permutation is used which could apply equally to Computer Straight Forecasts and Computer Tricasts, in the absence of specific instructions the bet will be executed in proportion.

B) Incorrect Stakes

 Unless covered by the preceding section, where the amount of stake money received is less than the required amount to execute the wager in full, the whole of the stake will be executed in proportion. Where the amount of stake money is greater than the required amount to execute the requested wager, in full, the over stake will be refunded.

 Late bets;

Bets can only be placed on the outcome of a future event, unless we are offering special ‘betting in-running prices’ for that event. If BoyleSports mistakenly accepts a bet for an event that has already started then the bet will be void and your stake returned. Where bets are taken after the start of an event, bets will stand if nothing has happened which would significantly alter the chances of the selection winning or losing.

All bets placed after the result of an event is known will be void win or lose.

Maximum Payouts;

The maximum daily payouts on any bet, or bets, including Ante Post, are as detailed below. The maximum payout limits apply to individual events. The limits below refer to the total return on the bet, excluding the original stake. If a multiple bet has been placed which involves events with different maximum payout limits, the lowest limit will apply.

All maximum payout limits apply to any one customer, or group of customers acting together, who have backed the same combination of selections, including where placed in a series of bets, at a range of prices, over a number of days using different betting accounts and/or across different betting channels. Should we have reason to believe that a number of bets have been placed this way, the total payment of all those bets combined will be limited to one single maximum payout.

BoyleSports shall not be liable for any loss of profits, loss of anticipated savings, loss of goods, or any special, indirect, consequential or pure economic loss, costs, damages, charges or expenses.

Throughout these rules, ‘Full Service’ refers to horse and greyhound races for which full details (shows of betting, official off times and results) are broadcast to BoyleSports and viewable in our shops by satellite and terrestrial media.

The total maximum payout per customer is determined by us and we may set individual limits for each sport or event at our discretion. It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure they are aware of each of the limits before bet placement. In the event that a customer has an accumulator or multiple legs bet the maximum payout will be applied according to the lowest payout limit on the accumulator or multiple legs. BoyleSports may amend or introduce any limits from time to time at its discretion without giving notice.

IT IS THE CUSTOMER’S SOLE RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT ANY BET THAT HE OR SHE STRIKE WITH US IS WITHIN THE REALMS OF OUR LIMITS AND COMPLIES WITH THESE RULES.

No More Bets

In the case of horse races, where our EPOS systems record an automatic “No More Bets” time, a bet will be valid if it is placed after the start of an event but before the automatic “No More Bets” time. The automatic “No More Bets” time is advertised on our screens. For All Virtual Racing, the automatic "No More Bets” time is up to the off of the race and any bet accepted after this time will be void, win or lose. In the event of a technical issue, the “No More Bets” option will not be available and bets will be settled up to the official off time of that race.

Price Changes;

All prices are subject to change and may, on occasion, be restricted to certain stake levels. The prices offered via our different business channels may vary. For example, our shops may offer slightly different prices from those available at our Call Centre or on our Website

Related Contingencies;

Different bets may not be combined where the result of one influences the outcome of another, if accepted in error bets will be split evenly as singles, or where applicable, the multiples available on the selections used. Example: One team to win a Semi-Final and Final of a competition as a double. If two selections run in the same race are included in a double, treble or accumulator, both win and place stakes will be equally divided between the two. A double will become 2 singles; a treble will become two doubles and so on. If however, either of the selections should be doubly engaged, settlement will be determined by application of Rule “Double Engaged”. If the same selection is repeated in a double, treble or accumulator, then a non-runner will be substituted for the repeated selection. Where a horse and greyhound or a virtual horse or greyhound with identical names are engaged to run on the same day, untimed bets for that selection will be settled for the horse race unless it is otherwise indicated that the greyhound or virtual horse is required. Where a selection is given both by name and trap number, the name will take precedence for the purpose of settlement. Untimed or wrongly timed bets on unnamed favourites where the meeting is specified will be automatically settled for the next race after acceptance of the bet at that meeting.

Results / Double Results;

All bets placed on Irish, UK, UAE and South African horse racing (or where advertised) will be settled on First Past the Post and the official result. This offer applies to winning single and multiple bets and the win part of Each-Way bets. There is no restriction on staking, and payouts are subject to our advertised payout limits. The exceptions where First Past the Post does not apply and bets are only settled according to the official result are:

  1. A selection taking the wrong course
  2. A selection carrying the wrong weight or the jockey failing to weigh-in
  3. Any Ante Post bet
  4. A void race
  5. Any Tote/Pari-Mutuel bet
  6. A selection given as the winner in error by the judge
  7. A bet placed on a two-runner race or a special match bet
  8. Any other special market

Horse racing bets placed on non- Irish UK, UAE and SA meetings are settled on the official result declared by the racecourse judge and confirmed by the ‘Weighed-In’ announcement. If a winner is disqualified after the official result is announced, the disqualification will not affect the settlement of bets.

In the case of Greyhound racing, bets are settled on the official result announced at the conclusion of the event. If a winner is disqualified after the official result is announced, the disqualification will not affect the settlement of bets.

In the case of Football and other Sports, bets are settled on the official result published by the Press Association (PA), immediately after the match/event is finished. If the PA amends its decision after this period, all bets will stand on their original result.

If the result is not immediately available from the PA, the result published by the official governing body immediately after the match/event is finished will be used for settling purposes. Any subsequent corrections or amendments to this result will not apply for settlement purposes.

Settlement of Bets;

Horse racing bets are automatically settled on a Double Result basis unless otherwise stated or as detailed in the ‘Double Result’ section. The advertised times of all races, the runners, the returns and the results as published in the Racing Post (or where not published in another national newspaper determined by us) will govern the settlement of all bets, errors and omissions excepted.

“Through the Card” type instructions will be determined by reference to the published race programme, as will instructions “first race” etc. In the event of no starting prices being returned, all selections for which a price has not been laid, will be declared void and treated as non-runners for the purpose of settlement. Unless otherwise advertised by us, bets are accepted only at Starting Price, Board Price, Morning Price or Ante-Post Price. If taken at tote returns in error, win and place singles or accumulative bets will be settled at starting prices. Forecast bets will be settled in accordance with our Rule “Forecasts”. Each way doubles, trebles and accumulators are settled win to win and place to place. When three or more selections are made for a race in a wager involving straight forecasts, settlement will be made as a full combination of those selections, unless each required forecast is written individually. In accumulative wagers where bet contingencies are related, stakes will be divided on those selections which therefore clash. Commissions for a horse or greyhound that runs in a race or a meeting not precluded by our rules will be executed for that race unless the selection is specifically timed by the customer or by our Rule “Double Engaged” for another race for which it holds an engagement. Where there is evidence of “price-rigging” of starting prices, we reserve the right to withhold payment of returns pending the outcome of any subsequent inquiry.

Time of Acceptance;

In the case of races covered live in our shops for which an “Off” signal is given, we officially cease to take bets after the “No More Bets” message. For other races or events, bets are only accepted up to the advertised time of starting or the time of starting (if earlier). Should a customer, subsequent to the result of a race having been determined or after we have officially ceased to take bets on a race include in his instructions a selection for that race, it will be treated as a non-runner, win or lose. If there is a dispute over the time at which a bet was placed then the time at which it was recorded on our IT system will be the final determinant except in the case of manifest error.

Any Virtual bet taken after the official off / advertised off time will be void, win or lose.

Voids;

 If a selection in a single bet is made void the stake will be returned. Void selections in multiple/accumulator bets will be treated as non-runners and the stake will run onto the remaining selections in the bet.

IN-PLAY BETTING

If a match/tournament is curtailed through external factors and there is no further play any bets placed on any-in play market once play has been curtailed will be void. Any bets placed prior to this will be settled in accordance to our normal rules.

Withholding payment and our right to set off liability;

We reserve the right to withhold payment and to declare bets on an event void if we have evidence that the following has occurred:

  1. the integrity of the event has been called into question
  2. the price(s) or pool has been manipulated
  3. match rigging has taken place

Evidence of the above may be based on the size, volume or pattern of bets placed with us across any or all of our betting channels. A decision given by the relevant governing body of the sport in question (if any) will be conclusive. If any customer owes any money to BoyleSports for any reason, we have the right to take that into account before making any payments to that customer.
